Below: Albertus C. Van Raalte
Albertus C. Van Raalte came to Holland with his men in 1847. They settled down in the place known today as Lake Macatawa. Though the place was very beautiful, Van Raalte ordered to have a lighthouse. Then, in 1866 harbor officials received news from congress that they could manufacture a lighthouse.
The first lighthouse was put up in 1872. On top was a lantern deck where the lighthouse keepers spent their time maneuvering around. Over time, the harbor was wrecked with great storms. Over time the lighthouse was beaten and a separate building was established in 1907. The Holland Lighthouse has a great history and flourishes today.
